Statement:  Mecosta County Democratic Party Celebrate Black History Month

February 1, 2026

Mecosta County - In observance and recognition of Black History Month, the Mecosta County Democratic Party reflect on the rich history of Black Americans. As the country faces increased attacks on Black and Brown Americans by rhetoric from the Trump administration, it is critical to celebrate and share the stories of Black Americans.

The second term of the Trump administration and his Republican enablers, who work dangerously to eliminate the power of Black and Democratic voters by dismantling key voting rights protections, cause chaos in voters so they fear showing up for elections, eliminating Black History, and removing holidays honoring the work of the civil rights leaders who advocated to end racism and segregation. Despite their efforts to silence journalist and attack politicians such as Jasmine Crockett, Black politicians are standing boldly and winning races across the country!

During the Month of February and every month, support and stand ‘with’ Americans who fight for our Democratic Values. We stand on the shoulders of giants who changed history; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Langston Hughes, Shirley Chishom, and Ida B. Wells, to list a few; who paved the way for leaders like Barack Obama, Mary Sheffield, Kamala Harris, and so many artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, athletes, actors, authors, inventors in America. Visit the Ferris State University - Multicultural Student Services website for February events, take a tour of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University, and support events in your community. Be Strong, Be Bold and let’s vote the Republicans out of office in 2026!
